Together Everyone Achieves More

For over 30 years, volunteers have supported our staff to challenge perceptions of disabled and disadvantaged people. Over 150 people each year volunteer at Bendrigg, some on a day-by-day basis and others as a residential volunteer for a week or weekend. We work closely together as a team ensuring that visiting groups get the best care and support and that the centre runs smoothly and efficiently.

However long you volunteer for, you are provided with the ideal opportunity to develop personal skills and strengths whilst giving time and energy to others. For our residential volunteers, you are partnered with a specific group whom you will help and support in all aspects of their stay – from meal times to activities and everything in between.

This is what our volunteers already say

I have felt at home here amongst all these friendly people.

I can feel in my heart it was something I was destined to do.

Dear Bendrigg Staff, Thank you for giving me the opportunity to volunteer this week, I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The hard work the staff put in is truly amazing. The activities are run in such an efficient way that involves all students. I have felt at home here amongst all these friendly people. I hope to return in the future at some point and would like to wish you all the best. Kind regards, Joe Weston – Volunteer July 2016

Dear Sue & team, Thank you so much for the wonderful week I have just had as a volunteer at your beautiful centre, I felt connected with the people I helped look after, and the warm welcome I received, the week flew by and I miss the centre already. I really appreciate your time and concern in allowing me to gain experience, in a vocation I wish to continue, I can feel in my heart it was something I was destined to do. I do hope if another week becomes available you would be so kind as to think of me. Once again I appreciate this chance that was given to me and you all will be forever in my thoughts. Sent with sincere and warm regards, Siobhan Noblett – Volunteer August 2016

If you can’t commit to a week or weekend of volunteering then day support is just as valuable – helping out in our office, working with day visitors, lending a hand in the kitchen or even a spot of gardening. Day volunteers are particularly valuable to support our Site Supervisor to maintain our 15 acres of woodland and grounds and also with weekly checks and regular upkeep of buildings.

Bendrigg can accredit Duke of Edinburgh and John Muir Award schemes as well as providing references and testimonials to help with future employment and educational opportunities. Many of our volunteers return time and time again and truly become part of the Bendrigg Trust family.
